 | Subject: Rebuilding my Gearbox: DIY Job Tue Jun 24, 2008 4:52 pm | |
| Ok so this is a heads up for those that like/love to tinker on bikes and maybe dont have the shiney new ones with warranties to fix the fuckups.
Im rebuilding the gearbox on my blade in the upcoming weeks. My wrench and someone I consider a friend, Linton Gross over at Biketech in Nerang has graciously offered his shop and expertise to allow me to do the job with him looking over my shoulder.
Ive torn down car motors in Fords, GM products, BMW's and Porsche's along with a few Jap motors so I know my way around a shop, tools, etc. But transmissions were generally something I tended to leave to the professionals....
What I am doing is taking 2 days to remove the motor out of my bike, split the cases, and then open up my trans, replace 1st and 2nd gear, the dogs, and the shifter fork. I might also replace a few things in there while I am at it, depending on my budget and time constriants.
I dont know how cool Linton would be for someone to come by and take a look while I am doing the process, but he seems pretty easy on me walking into his shop to watch over his shoulder on other stuff and even use a few of his tools when I need them, or to generally harass him while he is working.. LOL
So if anyone wants to see the process, or even lend a hand, then let me know. I will be posting the specific time / dates soon to let you all know when I am doing this.
OH, and the Project after that is to put an 04 Gixxer 1000 Tail on my Blade. I found a write up to do it and its gonna take some minor fabrication etc.. Will be posting before and after pics of that process in the upgrades section. |
