| Ever since I gave my bike to a bastard mechanic @ Cleveland the R6 exhaust has been popping. Especially when I let go of the throttle. I think it's worse at 1 - 2 - 3 gears, haven't heard it much at a higher gear range. I keep hearing, 'it's too rich' etc. I need to know how to resolve this.
Also it's a known problem that R6's have a sticky gear box when you shift from 1st to 2nd, does anyone know the cause / solution to this problem? I just feel it doesn't shift up as smoothly.
Any help would be appreciated. _________________

| | shitty air fuel ratio, the cbr used to do it... get a commander and have it mapped. not alot you can do about the gear box, cbrs have notoriously loud gear boxes, just work out the rev range... will change better at certain rpm. |

| Cd be running rich, cd be the timing is advanced too much.. Is the bike still under warranty? if not, Id suggest a Dyno and as Adam sd check the ignition maps.. There is a Dyno guy in Nerang.. Im sure there is one closer to you Cheers |

| Get it put on a dyno and they'll be able to fix the over fueling problem for ya. As for the gearbox it is most probably a tight gear selector fork not much u can do about this without pulling out the engine. As Adam said it will change smooth at a certain rev range ya just have to work that out. |

| Did you get your air-filter replaced with an aftermarket one? The stock engine management systems found on most bikes do not adequately compensate for the improved air flow of aftermarket components which leads to the engine being operated out of its optimum air-fuel mixture range.
In most cases this only means that the output power is below what the given modification would be capable of with correct mixture ratio, that is, the bike usually runs slightly slightly lean. In extreme cases, not yours, this can cause valves to be damaged due to overheating.
Also, some modern bikes port unused ram-air pressure to the exhaust headers which can cause backfiring with an aftermarket exhaust. Nothing to do with AFR. This happened to me. So I plugged the port that allowed it to happen.
Personally I thought it sounded hot but then I come from a family of hoons. But it did draw too much attention.
Does your R6 have an O2 sensor? If it does, I seriously would not even bother worrying about the backfire. _________________ http://www.australian-hayabusa-club.com/MyBB/index.php |

| Yeah you are running a K&N right Z? that would def mess up the maps.. however, if you have an O2 sensor as Tim asked, which I would assume you do, considering its EFI with a catalytic, and factory exhaust.. The O2 sensor will keep the bike in order to avoid valve burning. Still it sounds irritating, and considering that you feel like you are losing power or are dissatisfied with it, Id say get it sorted.. after all we gotta enjoy the ride right?

| Yup K&N air and oil....so could be that?
I'll wait till I get a full system exhaust and PC3 before I dyno run it.
Tks all for ur help. _________________

I'm yet to see an O2 sensor that can help you at WOT. But seriously I would not spend a cent on this "issue". You'd only be gaining advantage on paper if you do. _________________ http://www.australian-hayabusa-club.com/MyBB/index.php |

| | Personally Im not a fan of them.. but they seem to be a necessity these days.. Im an old carby fan.. easier to work on myself. then again something about taking out a laptop to program my maps is attractive enuf for me to want an EFI bike next.. |

| you'll get it all sorted if you get a commander Z, you'll need to get an 02 sensor eliminator like i did JUST to re-map it. the sensor fights all mods. Carbon is lighter n shit but its also a bajillion times more $$$, my rs5 slip on was like $700 new, Cameron has same exhaust but carbon fibre and it retailed at $1100. |
